Right before my husband and I got married, my aunt JoAnn came to visit and to help us prepare for the wedding. Since she's from Michigan and doesn't get to see the ocean very often, my mother decided that we should take her to Pemaquid Point. The lighthouse there is very pretty, and you can still go up to the light inside it. We had a great afternoon there exploring and taking pictures.
This was a sad trip, but an important one for us. My mother's family is from Michigan, and we all decided to go out to see Mom's family when we heard that my great-aunt had been diagnosed with cancer at the age of 92. It had been years since I had seen Grandma Kay, whom I'm named for, and Josiah had never met any of my mother's family before except for Aunt Jo. So we accompanied Mom out to visit the family. It was nice to be able to see Grandma Kay one last time and to visit with my grandmother, aunt, and cousins. While we were in Michigan, we were also able to visit the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. It was my second time to both the museum and the village, but Josiah's first time. There's a lot to see in both places, and if you ever get the chance to go, it's a must-see place!
St. John was our first really big trip together. There is a science class at the college I go to which travels to St. John to study the ecology of the island. Josiah and I were both able to take the class together and we had a blast. We stayed at VIERS, the Virgin Island Ecological Resource Station, got to go snorkeling in the warm and beautiful turquoise water, and hike to different parts of the island. It was fun learning about the different types of plants and animals on the island. It was a nice change from winter in Maine!
